Not “Art Deco”, “Ice Deck-o”

The small deck outside our bedroom is still wooden, so the wood itself is much more interesting than the large deck off the sunroom which we replaced a year ago with the new (supposedly) wears-forever decking.

In the Winter, the door to the bedroom deck doesn’t get opened very often.  But the other day I opened it to look at something in the yard (probably snow because that’s just about all there has been in the yard recently), and noticed these leaves on and holes in the icy snow covering the deck.  There is a pergola over it so I imagine the holes were made by water dripping from it.

There were a few leaves on top of the icy snow.

I like this picture because the ice looks lacy and almost transparent and the green discoloration on the wood adds a little color.

Angles, textures, a little color.

And the hole on the left is the reason I went to get my camera in the first place.  I just happened to glance down and saw this perfectly shaped heart.

When we had an ice storm a couple years ago, the interest on that deck was when you looked up!

I love the contrast of the white ice and the fall-colored leaves. Beautiful!

These are wonderful photos, Sandra. I love the icy teeth beneath your deck. And those holes in the ice caught my attention right away. I immediately saw the heart shape but I also think that the way they’re positioned over the crack between boards makes them look like kissy lips.

    Beth — Thank you!

Hilary — Thank you. The icy teeth photo is one of my favorites. And, you’re right, the space between the boards DOES make the holes look like lips. 🙂

Once again, beautiful pictures!!! You have such an eye.

These are all great, Sandy. The leaves on the snow make a dramatic photo. I, too saw the heart in the snow right away, but I had to go back for a second look to see the lips. My favorite is the icicle garden, though. 🙂

Thank you, Amy. I have to admit that there is a real “high” when I get some pictures like these that I really like.

Thank you, Linda. I was delighted when I put the leaves picture on here and the edges of the picture disappeared. I love the way they look like they’re sort of floating. The icy pergola is one of my all time favorites. It was fun to have a reason to post it again. 🙂

I thought so too, Elizabeth. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  11. I keep tryin to get a good prism effect with the ice , but it is hard.

OotP — I can imagine. In my experience, ice just doesn’t translate to (I started to say “film”, but not any more I guess.) photos very well. 🙂

    Thank you, kcinnova!

Oh my goodness, those icicles!! I got cold looking at your pictures, so they really do convey a very strong sense of the power of winter. It’s sixty degrees here today and you made me shiver.

I really don’t know if I can come up with higher praise for the pictures than that 🙂

  15. Sandra says:

LoS — I agree. You couldn’t pay me a higher compliment. Thank you.

  16. Fastastic, all, but my, those icicles! Congrats on POTW!
