zippy at sixty-five …

Do you know what a zip line is?  I certainly didn’t before this weekend.  But now I not only know what one is but I have ridden one!

After answering alot of questions about your health and mental capacity, signing a waiver and hearing lots of instructions, they suit you up like this. The picture confirms that I looked just as cute in that get-up as I thought I did.

Next, they put you on a platform that raises you up maybe 20-25 feet?  High.

And finally after they hook you up to the line (with lots of assurances about how many different things would have to fail [4] in order for you to fall) and give you instructions regarding what to do if something should happen that you stop before you get all the way to the other side, they just give you a little push and off you go!  (with Hubby and DD standing on the bridge near-by to take pictures.)

When I got done and put my visor back on, my dear family had a good laugh at my expense before they told me that I had my visor turned up instead of down.

The ride was fun, but not nearly as much fun as it was to surprise my family that I would do it!  It really wasn’t very scary, but I’m not going to tell them that because I want them to believe I’m fearless!!

I saw the first and last photos on Facebook last night and so was looking forward to this post. You didn’t disappoint. What fun. And I think the helmet and harness are quite fetching. As for the upside down visor…well, been there, done that. 🙂

  2. Sandra says:

Linda — I DID think of you when I saw that picture. 🙂 It was fun to do, as I said, mainly because just about all of those with me were betting against me!

  3. Amy Ostrowski says:

That is very cool! How exciting. I don’t know if I could do it. Did DD do it? Or was it just you? If she didn’t I may have to call her a wimp. 😉

  4. C. Beth says:

I would love to try a zip line sometime!

And I agree, the outfit is fantastic. The harness looks like something that a designer should market as underwear for women who want less “sagging” in the area. 😉

  5. Beckie says:

Wow!!! Some people will do ANYTHING for a blog post!! 🙂

  6. Sandra says:

Amy — No, DD didn’t do it. She had a mini-skirt on, so not exactly appropriate for swinging high in the air in a harness! But, feel free to call her a wimp anyway, and tell her her mother told you to! 🙂

Beth — It was really fun, even though you have to look like a dork to do it. 🙂

Beckie — You are absolutely right. Bungee jumping here I come!!! 🙂

  7. Sue Schumm says:

Good for you!!…Good to surprise our families once in awhile isn’t it?

  8. Sandra says:

Sue — I agree! btw, I had no idea what a wimp they thought I was! 🙂

  9. Suldog says:

Excellent! And what an odd coincidence. Just Tuesday, I was chatting with a softball fan, in the stands at our game, who was about your age and was planning on doing the zip line thing this coming Saturday. Way cool!

  10. Sandra says:

Suldog — That IS a coincidence! Hope that person enjoys it as much and gets as many atta boys as me! 🙂

  11. Hilary says:

Woohoo.. good for you! That looks like a lot of fun. And you look ultra cool in your zippy attire.

  12. Sandra says:

I like “ultra cool” as a description, Hilary. So much better than “hysterically clueless”. It’s fortunate that I wasn’t sure how dorky I looked until after the fact, because I really did have a good time doing it. 🙂
