Flying lighter!

Hubby has been really working at this weight loss thing since he joined me in Weight Watchers last week (besides watching what he eats, he’s going to the gym almost every day — sometimes with me!).  He really has inspired me to get serious about losing again.

So yesterday was the end of his first week, and we went to the meeting to get the results of our hard work.

I had lost 3.2 lbs.  I was very happy with that.  I haven’t lost a significant amount in a long time.  I am now only about 10 lbs. from my goal.

And Hubby had lost 14.6 lbs.!  Wow!  But when he was congratulated by the leader during the meeting he indicated that that was just the beginning of a long road.  He made the class laugh when he said that that amount of weight loss for him could be equated to peeling a decal off a 747 airplane.  Thank  goodness what he’s lost doesn’t include his sense of humor!

I did tell the group that it was really annoying for someone who struggles to lose a pound to live with someone who can lose that much in one week.  So I told them I was going to initiate a new tradition.  Each week at the end of the meeting we would have a drawing to see who had to take Hubby home with them for THAT week.

One older woman immediately asked, “Does he cook?”  I think if he did, she was going to volunteer to take him!

btw, my acrylic nail on my index finger fell off yesterday (luckily the same day as my regular nail appointment) and I attribute that to all the time I spent on the calculator last week punching in numbers to calculate the WW points for everything we ate!

Congradulations to both of you….you are an inspiration to others of us who also need to trim our “747s”!!

All I can say is WOW!

  3. Sandra says:

Thanks, Cheryl. I LIKE to think I inspire you! 🙂

Yeah, Candy. That’s what I said. The man’s on a mission.

Way to go Uncle ‘Hubby’ and Aunt Sandy! Keep up the great work!
I know my dad feels so much better for having lost his weight through ww and he’s keeping it off.
Hope you have a great week!

Very impressive weight loss for both of you.

    Congratulations!

Even more impressive when I think about all that candy-making you did.

  6. Linda says:

When you told me about Hubby’s weight loss yesterday, you didn’t mention yours! Very impressive.

  7. Donna says:

Yay! I am impressed with both of you. That’s fantastic! PS: men always lose weight easier than women, at least they do at my house.

  8. Amy O says:

What a great week! Congratulations! I weighed in yesterday hoping to reach my 10% goal and didn’t. Hopefully, this coming week!

Julie — I think your dad’s success was one of the things that inspired Hubby. He looks realllly good!

Carla — Yes, it has been especially challenging during this season. But, thankfully, I’m done with the candy making!

Linda — Welll, it didn’t come up because it pales in comparison to HIS loss! 🙂

Donna — Yes, it’s always that way at our house too. I’ve always said that all he has to do is say, “I’m on a diet.” and he automatically starts dropping weight. But, I have noticed that it’s gotten harder for him with age just like it has for me.

Way to go, Amy! It feels good doesn’t it? Especially at this time of year. I bet you’ll get your 10% next week! 🙂

Oh boy, you completely surprised me! When I started reading your “btw”, I thought you were going to laughingly attribute your weight loss to your fingernail falling off! Congrats on the REAL weight loss! He may have lost more, but we always lose more at the beginning of our diet. It’ll not always be that way for him. But I know what you mean. Sam and I both lost about 3 years ago and his just melted off and I had to work for every pound I lost after that 1st week!

  11. Sandra says:

Cathy — He does realize that it’s not unusual to have a really big loss in the first week, so he was prepared for the much slower rate of loss so far this week. And he is faithly going to the gym almost every day — that’s bound to help. (And I’m going with him about every other day — it feels good to get back to it.) It’s great that you and Sam have been able to keep it off. My experience has been that maintaining is wayyyy harder than the actual losing.

  12. C. Beth says:

Well good for him–but, WOW, I’m impressed with you, only 10 pounds away! You’ve been working at it for awhile, and you’ve been faithful! Congratulations!

  13. Sandra says:

Beth — Yes, but I really was STUCK for quite a while and was ready to give up on that last 10 pounds until he joined me. Now I’m re-energized and have new hope!
