Birds Go to the Mall Too!

When I was leaving the Mall one day last week, I heard a chorus of chirping birds that was coming from this clump of evergreens next to the entrance.

It was really loud and sounded like there must be hundreds of birds in there.  So, of course, I thought “photo op”!  Okay.  I formed a plan.  I went to my car, got my camera ready on the seat beside me, and then drove over and parked in the “no parking zone” right in front of the trees.  I was thinking that just me driving up close might scare the birds and hundreds might fly out — what a picture THAT would be!

Unfortunately the birds hadn’t “gotten the memo” because they didn’t all fly out.  In fact, they did a very good job of ignoring me, even when I then tapped on the horn to see if THAT would get them moving.

So, I just sat there a few minutes and took some pictures of the few birds that did show themselves, which just happened to be backlit against a beautiful sky.

I would love to know what so many birds were doing in there.  It sounded for all the world like choir practice!

We have bushes in our area that attracts hundred of sparrows just before dusk and a little after dawn. I think it’s their goodnight and wake up songs. Those trees probably provide good shelter. Lovely shots.

Those are beautiful photos! I’m glad you shared them. I like the idea of them being in choir practice. For an Audience of One!

    How are you feeling?

Hilary — It is just hard for me to picture how many birds it sounded like were in the middle of those evergreens. It sounded like hundreds! I picture them “shoulder to shoulder”. But, they weren’t coming out for nothin’! 🙂 btw, I didn’t even notice the sky until after I put the pictures on the computer and really looked at them. A nice surprise.

Beth — I’m feeling better. I’m actually able to cover up the ugly flakiness on my face with make-up now, and the ear ache that I’ve had almost constantly for this week, is finally subsiding. Also, my golfing buddy just called and we’re going to play for the first time on Friday! Hooray! The idea of getting out and walking the golf course is some pretty strong medicine all by itself!

Thank you so much for your concern, Beth.

There is a tree down the street from me, that has heaps of birds in it.

I happened to be passing by one day, when a neighbour threw out some bird seed for them. It was like a cloud of birds aroiising from that tree.

Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera with me 😦

Karen — I never buy bird seed, but I may have to buy some just so I can keep a baggie of it in the car! Hmmm. I wonder if I would throw it AT the bush? I’d hate to think I might put a bird’s eye out! 🙂
