Shingles Belong on a Roof!

I went to the Dr. yesterday and he confirmed what I already suspected … I have shingles on the left side of my face, just like I did 35 years ago!

It started over the weekend with an ache in my jaw and ear (I was thinking bad tooth or ear infection), but on Sunday night all the teeth on that side, for heaven sake, started aching!  And then a couple of little water blisters appeared at the corner of my mouth, and I suddenly recognized the shingles!

I went to the Dr. yesterday and he confirmed it, and I start the medicines this morning.  But, for the first time, this morning I feel awful.

Hubby had shingles a couple months ago too, and we know several others who have had them recently.  So, as soon as I get over this bout, we’re going to have the one-time vaccine.

Hope your day is without an aching  jaw and blisters! 🙂

I agree, shingles need to stay on a roof. Hopefully, by this evening you will be feeling better! Take Care.

  2. Sandra says:

Thank you, Amy. One of the nice things about being at my time in life, retired and children raised, is that I don’t have to worry about missing work or who will take care of my kids while I’m sick. I can just “veg” until I feel better. 🙂

  3. Beth says:

Oh, no, Sandra. From all I’ve heard, that is not at all a fun one to deal with. I’m so sorry and pray you’ll be healed of that nasty virus.

  4. Sandra says:

Beth — I just sound pathetic, don’t I? But, I already feel better now that I’ve started the medicine. I’m hoping that I caught it early enough that it won’t get tooo bad. My once-a-month book club is tomorrow night, and I’m HOPING that I’ll feel well enough to go, although I’m not crazy about how I look. I guess I could wear a bag over my head! 🙂

  5. Linda says:

Sandy, I’m so sorry to hear this. May health return soon! Doug and I both got the shingles vaccine last fall. It’s expensive, and our insurance doesn’t cover it; but it gives some peace of mind. We didn’t even realize that your DH had had a bout of it recently. Praying for you.

  6. Sandra says:

    Thanks, Linda.

  7. Sam says:

I’m so sorry, Sandy. I pray for grace and comfort immediately, with quick results to get over them.

  8. Sandra says:

Thank you, Sam. I already feel better since I started taking the medicine. Hopefully, I caught it early and it will go away quickly. I appreciate your prayers!

  9. Karen says:

Completely agree with you…shingle do only belong on the roof !!

So sorry you re feeling bad. Prayers and good thoughts winging your way, for a quick recovery.

My daughter has had shingles … they appeared roaund her side from her back. She was in a lot of pain. Her Dr said that it was really unusual for her to get them, as she was in her early 20’s at the time. She was under a lot of stress, so that may have contributed.

We are also talkng aboutthe kid who developed Whooping Cough, after being vaccinated… and not a mild case either. 😦

  10. Sandra says:

Karen — The first time I had them I was in my late 20’s and I guess that was pretty young — so here I am with them again 😦

As soon as I get over them this time, I’m getting the vaccine! I don’t want to EVER go through this again.

Thanks so much for your prayers, Karen.

  11. Hilary says:

Oh Sandra, I’m sorry you’re feeling poorly. Shingles are so unpleasant. I had them almost 20 years ago when I was newly-pregnant with my younger son. I feel for you, and I hope the meds do their thing quickly.

  12. Sandra says:

I hope the meds do their job quickly too, Hilary. I’m already tired of this!

  13. Julie says:

I’m so sorry you are not feeling well Aunt Sandy! I’ve never had shingles, but they don’t sound too pleasant. I hope the meds bring you relief quickly! Take care…
    Julie : )

  14. Beth says:

Just wanted to let you know I’m thinking of you and praying for you tonight!

  15. chrissy says:

Sorry so sorry you have to deal with Shingles, I am praying for a speedy recovery for you! What age should a person get the shingles vaccine?

  16. Sandra says:

Julie — It IS NOT pleasant! If you are ever given the “opportunity” to expeience them, PASS! 🙂 Thanks for your well wishes.

Beth — It is so nice of you to stop in again just to let me know you are praying for me. Thank you!

Chrissy — Thank you for your prayers. I am reallly praying for that “speedy” part myself!

I don’t know what they say about age for the vaccine. But one dose costs about $250 and I don’t think it’s covered by most insurance, so I would guess people at least over 50 would be the ones Dr.s would recommend it for the most, with the assumption that it’s harder on you as you get older. It is so unpleasant for me at (almost) 63 that I can imagine how awful it would be for someone 83!
