Hubby and I aren’t the only ones in our house preparing for Christmas — so is our Christmas Cactus! Plants outside in the snow may be dormant, but CC knows it’s his time to shine!
Our Christmas Cactus lives in a canister in a north-facing window in our kitchen. Because I’m not very “in tune” with plants, and also forgetful, he literally gets a drink about once a month. But he continues to survive, and a couple times a year put on a little show. Now because he isn’t babied, he doesn’t do many, many blooms. The most I’ve every seen on him is six. But, he does bloom, and I’m always excited about that, especially at Christmas time.
Do you see the “buds” on two of the leaves (it occurs to me that those are surely not called leaves, but I have no idea what they are called) at the lower right?
Only those of you who are also not good with plants will truly understand how much I enjoy it when this cactus blooms. We just don’t see many blooms in this house. So, whatever our little cactus gives us, will be appreciated and enjoyed!
I’m one of those! I’m hoping the peace lily I’ve amazingly kept alive for two years will bloom this year.
I hope it does, Beth! Then we both will have experienced a little “against all odds success!” 🙂
Oh, believe me; I would appreciate the same. Wait til you see my Weekly Winners tomorrow (remember that Poinsettia???)
I’ll be sure to check in, Mrs4444!
I’m always stunned when one of my plants lives, much less blooms. I haven’t had a Christmas cactus in decades. I must have killed the last one, so yup, I get it. This bud’s for you! 😉
Hilary — I love it! Although, I would have pictured you a “plant person.” I guess because of your love of the outdoors. You have my condolences that you’re “one of us” — the Black Thumb Society! 🙂
The Christmas cactus is one of my favorite plants.
Your picture with the plant in front of the window is very nice.
Tab — Me too! Looooow maintenance! Just my style! I like the picture with the backdrop of our first really heavy snow too. It didn’t last long, but I did enjoy it while it lasted.
