Gut Check Time for Conservative Christians

Okay.  The election didn’t turn out the way many conservative Christians prayed that it would.  But do we really believe the words we say? — that God is in control?  If we do, then God’s hand is in this too.

Our job, as Christians obedient to God?  To respect Barack Obama and the office he will now hold.  And, to constantly pray that God will guide him and give him humility, discernment and wisdom as the most powerful person on earth.

Sandra- Amen. That is what I have been trying to tell my DH all night. I hope and pray that we listen to what Senator McCain stated in his speech last night. It was a speech of humbleness and a love of our country.

  2. Sandra says:

Amy — This is a time when people will be watching us “God is in control” people to see if we really believe what we are saying!

  3. Julie says:

Yes I do believe that God is in control all the time and that God is good all the time. Rom. 8:28! I will pray, as you have said, that God will guide Mr. Obama and give him wisdom and discernment on how to govern this great nation. May God continue to protect and lead us and our leaders! Thanks for the post Aunt Sandy!

  4. Sandra says:

Thanks for commenting, Julie. I know mature Christians know this, but it seemed appropriate to say it specifically at this time.

  5. Pam says:

I know God is in control, but I do believe he allows us agency here. Case in point people that murder their families or abuse, people mis using their agency. make sense??

Well, like you said, McCain gave a great speech. I hope as a nation we come together, it is the only way we are going to move forward

I just found your blog this morning. You are so right about God being in control. He tells us that no leader is put in place without Him being in control of the situation and He commands us to pray for our leaders even when we don’t agree with them. I will be praying for Mr. Obama. Thanks for your insightful post and God bless.

  7. Sandra says:

Pam — No, it doesn’t all make sense to me. But, if it all made sense there would be no need for faith. That is what I cling to. Thanks for challenging me to think deeper about how I feel about all this. Civil discourse is one of the things that makes our country great, isn’t it!

Tina — Thanks for stopping by. It’s fun to be “found,” even when I didn’t know I was lost! 🙂

Do you suppose that if every Christian in this country made a commitment to pray all the time for President Obama, that we could raise him up above the kind of human limitations we all have and he might become the greatest leader we have ever had? Wouldn’t that we wonderful! I plan to pray, pray, pray for him, and I hope millions of other Christians will too. Only God knows how much every president needs that.

Great post, Sandra. I agree with Amy that Senator McCain’s speech was so gracious and humble last night. And Senator Obama’s was very inspiring. I will pray that God uses this man who has a gift of being able to inspire others–that his decisions are led by the Author of wisdom so that he is both inspirational and effective.

  9. Sandra says:

Beth — Thank you for your wise words.

  10. Chourou says:

Good posting,Sandy. This is a relatively short one, all the more being impressive to me. The result was not as you prayed it would be, but it was definitly a good fight. Now I do expect the most poweful person on the earth will CHANGE the world, and am getting my eyes foucused on his policy.

  11. Sandra says:

Chourou — I hope he can make a difference for the better. That would be wonderful.

  12. To do anything else would be a waste. He has my support, regardless.

  13. Sandra says:

As always, thanks for your insights, Barb.
