More Editing Practice

Hello, you remember me.  The new photographer and very inexperienced photo editor?

Well, I’ve done some more picture-taking and more editing and now you are my “captive” audience.  Well, I guess not exactly captive — you could “exit” right now — but I hope you won’t.   There are just a few.

A light fixture “up close and personal.” In the editor I actually muted the light so that it was more of a glow.  I’m not sure if the edit improved the picture or not.  Also, took away the yellow cast by making the picture black and white.

Clouds that were just pretty.  Now more dramatic with the contrast enhanced.  I was totally surprised at how much prettier this became.

I hardly ever notice this day lily because it’s next to the sidewalk around the side of the house.  But I’ve rediscovered it since I am developing my “photographer’s eye.”  I love the color, which editing made just a little more vivid.  I’m also learning that it’s not just people who look their best in a “close-up.”

And, finally, the love of my life.  “Hi.  Just ignore me.  I’m just fooling around with my camera.”

So he went back to working his crossword puzzle.  Yes, that’s what we “retirees” do — we have time to actually finish a crossword puzzle (or sudoku, for me).  Isn’t he cute?

Even when his wife “edits” him so that he looks jaundiced.

Sometimes the result I get from “creative” photos isn’t exactly what I wanted.  The angle of this one, I think, makes it look like he’s maybe lying across the bed, doing the crossword on the floor!

He’s doing as asked and ignoring me.  Not hard because it’s a technique he has had over 40 years to perfect.

Happy Wednesday.

p.s. Candy and I are going to have a garage sale Friday and Saturday — more photo opportunities.  Stand-by for “incoming”!!

p.s.s.  Don’t forget to go comment on yesterday’s post for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate!

If anyone finished my puzzle for me, I should not be quite so pleased!
    Cheers

  2. Sandra says:

Welll, Maddy. When we were younger and busier, it wasn’t that someone else finished them for us — it was that they never got finished! 🙂

I must have missed the post when you started your new photography hobby. What kind of a camera are you using and what do you use to edit your photos? Just curious. Your mother would be so proud! She would have loved digital photography and not having to develop all those rolls of film she took. But, then again, think how many MORE pictures she would have taken! 🙂

Cyndie — I am using my Kodak Easy Share and it’s companion editing software, right now. I have purchased Photoshop Elements, but haven’t “grasped” it yet. I’m going to take a class starting later this month. In a year, I’ll decide if I want to really “invest” in this hobby, then I’ll look for a better camera, and maybe see the full-fledged Photoshop software as a next step. So far, I’m loving it.! Yes, Mama would have loved the digital cameras. I think she would have also loved blogging when she was younger — too bad it didn’t happen earlier — or she didn’t “happen” later!

Wow…the lighting photos are pro quality….love the ones of your DH…his face says it all…have his eyes aways been that blue?

Oh and you are having a garage sale..I love them….

    Good luck x

Oh I can see that you’re having fun and I’m going to enjoy watching you evolve… and watching your hubby’s face evolve. 😉

  7. tz says:

oooh, my hubby is trying to perfect ignoring me too…I can yell for him and he wouldn’t ‘hear’ me…but if I’m whispering something to a friend about him he comes from a floor away to find out what I’m saying…I guess it’s good to be good at something….

Your pictures are great. I have photoshop elements – I don’t take full advantage of all it has to offer – there’s so much, but I love playing around with it. You can get some amazing results using it. There were a several vacation pictuers we almost deleted until I played around with them and they turned out to be keepers. Looking forward to more pictures!

Danielle — Yes, Hubby has really blue eyes, especially noticable when he wears blue. We are all set up for the garage sale, starting tomorrow, and I’m taking my camera!

Gosh, Hilary. Do you think his face will “evolve” even more! I was hoping this was his final “look.” Although when I look at him, I see the 16 year old I first met many years ago. Corny, huh? But true.

tz — I think they learn “Ignoring 101” in Husband School!

Cyndie — I have great hopes for Photoshop Elements after I take my class. I am really enjoying this editing thing.
