Sometimes You Just Have to Admit When You’re In Over Your Head!

Yes, there are times when you have to admit when you’ve in over your head, but I don’t think it usually happens twice in such short order!

Thursday I sat down with Turbo Tax to do our taxes.  We had had them done by an accountant for many years, but, hey, we were retired now, so how hard could it be?

But, I DID put off doing them, probably because I was unsure of myself.  So anyway, I ended up with about two weeks to get them done — plenty of time to do some simple “retireee’s” taxes, right?.  Well, “retirement” brings all kinds of new wrinkles with it, that I had no idea how to handle.

So, after a couple hours I went outside where Hubby was “staying out of my way while I did the taxes,” by doing the spring cleaning in the yard.  I walked up to him and said, “I’m calling Bill.”  He said, “Okay.” But, then he said, because he’s always the optimist, “But, you know it’s probably too late to get him to do them for us.”

Well, that put some pep in my step!  I hadn’t thought about not being able to just dump this mess on Bill!  So, I immediately went in and called him, and, thank you, God, he said to bring the stuff over.  I am so relieved.  Crisis averted.

Then yesterday, I received cute pictures from our granddaughter that I decided, without any reasonable expectation that I could actually DO it, to post them here for you to see.  Well, you know how THAT turned out.  The post looked lovely when I looked at it, but apparently none of you could see the pictures!  I have spent several hours trying to put the pictures on in a way you could see them, and I just can’t figure it out.  So, I’ve “unpublished” that post, and I’ll keep working at a way to do it.

So, I think we could safely say the “theme” for my last two days could be “UNCLE!”   As in, “I give up!”

But, I remind myself, there are lots of things I CAN do, so I’m not going to stress over the things I can’t.

I thank God for the people in my life, like Bill, who do for me the things I can’t do for myself.

oh hey, I thought I was my problem I couldn’t see the pictures….I came back today to see if they would pop up.

Here’s one way to look at it…at least you tried. And I’m thinking Bill gets a bonus or a plate of homemade cookies with payment for taking you on at the last minute…now that’s an accountant worth hanging on to!

Good idea, tz. Although he’s tall and thin, so he may be one of those people who doesn’t eat sweets! Maybe a plate of tufu in flaxseed wraps, with a hummus dip? Thanks for your kind words, friend.

  3. Do you know what type file the photos are? If you like, you could email one to me, and I could check it out for you (rather than trying to teach you how to convert files). It’s not all that difficult, but I know you are dying to share the photos, and I would love to see them 🙂 I could also send you directions via email if you’re brave enough. If you can do this blog, you can learn to convert files 🙂 Let me know if I can help.

  4. I tried to use Turbo Tax once. I wound up using an accountant. I spent more money in getting my taxes done than I needed to for my modest refund…

  5. My accountant was shocked this year when I dropped off our paperwork in March. I’m always running to his office in April. But, I pay his bill on time, and he always manages to squeeze me in.

I am just now learning how to use a digital camera and posting photos. I understand the frustration…sometimes the “easy” technology is very time consuming.

  6. Baby steps. My wife didn’t even know how to use a computer when we met. Know she’s online and on the pc all the time. Just hang in there.

Mountain Cat — Lesson learned for me. Turbo Tax is only a “savings” if you ONLY use it — not in connection with an ACCOUNTANT!

SBW — I have always got my info to Bill at the last minute. So, he may have even semi-scheduled some time for us, knowing I would come whining for help. I always pay his bill right away too — I imagine that makes you and me “favorite clients” — lateness withstanding!

    The picture thing. Bummer.

Daddy Forever — Thanks for the words of encouragement. I need all those I can get in regard to computers/pictures. Very frustrated right now.

I don’t buy a program to do our taxes, I go to irs.gov and they direct me to who can do it for cheap, then I follow prompts, it isn’t to hard! You’ll figure out the pic thing, keep trying, I can’t wait to see them!

Chrissy — Bill has already had us come in and sign our tax forms and they are filing them electronically today. He’s a great guy, but I do wish someone would simplify our tax system, so that we didn’t have to do all this every spring. I’m still working on the pictures! You have more faith in me than I deserve, I think. By the time I get them posted, they’ll be out of date!
