President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s memorial is very unique.
This plaque explains that he said, while sitting on his desk, that if a memorial were made to him, he wouldn’t want it any bigger than “this” pointing to his desk. And for it to just say, “In Memory of ____________________”.
His wishes were followed and resulted in exactly the kind of memorial I think he was envisioning.
Hmmm…do we think he meant that the memorial would contain a blank, or do we think he meant for his name to be in that space? Rather than doing him honor, this seems like a practical joke to me. Maybe I’m missing something. Seems like a strange memorial.
I didn’t realize he was only 63 when he passed away! Wow.
Linda — I think he was being humble. Although Hubby pointed out that he was “suggesting” that there WOULD be a memorial to him.
Beth — Yeah, when that’s even more interesting when you’re a few days away from 66!
